Minotor

About this site

minotor.org was the home of the Minotor project. It is now an archive of that project, run by someone who had nothing to do with it.

Minotor sat in a live rig as one more MIDI device: a DJ's software sent it MIDI clock, and every animation was timed to that clock, so nothing had to be tapped or detected. It was built for very low resolutions — the team's own wall was 24 × 16 WS2801 pixels, fed over a serial link to an Arduino — and generated every animation in real time, with no clip player. The wiki explains how a show was built from animation groups, programs and the program bank.

Who runs it

An independent web publisher, who registered the domain in September 2026 after it had been unregistered for years. We are not Romuald Conty or Gauthier Legrand, we have no connection to them or to the minotor-org GitHub account, and we do not speak for the project. Nothing here should be read as coming from them.

We rebuilt the site rather than park it again because the project's GitHub repository still gives this address as its homepage. Anyone following that link for the last nine years found an ad page. Now they find the documentation.

History of the domain

WhenWhat was at minotor.org
April 2013The project's WordPress site opens: “Welcome to Minotor's website”.
2013 – 2016Home, FAQ, download and blog pages; a DokuWiki at wiki.minotor.org; a bbPress forum; an apt repository at debian.minotor.org. The blog's second and last post, August 2013, is a video of the first live test.
January 2017Last update of the project's site.
September 2017The address redirects to a domain-parking service; the wiki and forum are gone.
2018 – 2026Parked, then lapsed. Nothing of substance was published here.
September 2026Registered by the current owner; this archive published.

What is restored and what is new

How the new text was written

The new pages and the editor's notes were drafted with the help of a language model and then checked by hand. Every factual claim in them was checked against something you can open yourself — an original page, a file in the repository, the Launchpad PPA, or the MIDI and ATX specifications — and most pages link to the source. If you find a claim that does not hold, we would rather correct it than keep it.

Contact

Corrections, a missing page you have a copy of, or anything else: hello@minotor.org.

If you are one of Minotor's authors and want something here changed or removed — or want the domain back for the project — write to the same address. That request takes priority over everything else on this site.
